Whole Person Care Clinic Awarded $50,000 Grant from California Community Foundation to Expand Street Medicine Services in Long Beach

We’re thrilled to announce that Whole Person Care Clinic (WPCC) has been awarded a generous $50,000 grant from the California Community Foundation (CCF). We are humbled and energized by CCF’s decision to increase their funding this year, showing confidence in the critical work we do to bring healthcare directly to our unhoused neighbors.

Our Street Medicine program is grounded in the belief that healthcare is a basic human right. With this funding, we will expand our services from four days to a full seven days each week. Every day, we will provide access to vital, compassionate care for those who need it most.

This expansion means more than just additional hours. It means lives saved, relationships built, and pathways to stable housing made possible.

By operating seven days a week, we will:

  • Address urgent health concerns in the moment by providing wound care, vaccinations, mental health support, and chronic disease management on the street, in encampments, and in shelters.

  • Prevent avoidable hospitalizations by detecting and treating health issues early.

  • Strengthen the continuum of care by deepening partnerships with organizations like Long Beach Rescue Mission, the Long Beach Police Department Quality of Life (QOL) team, and other local shelters and service providers.

  • Connect people with critical services like food, mental health care, substance use treatment, and housing navigation to help them kickstart their journey to well-being.

“Street Medicine is not just about treating illness, it’s about building trust, restoring dignity, and walking alongside people on their path to wellness. We’re deeply grateful to CCF for helping us do more of this transformative work every day.”

-Dr. Connie Bartlett, Interim Medical Director, WPCC

Many people experiencing homelessness face barriers like transportation, stigma, or fear that prevent them from seeking medical attention. Street Medicine breaks those barriers down by meeting people where they are and offering medical care, kindness, respect, and a path to stability.

We are grateful to CCF for believing in this mission and walking beside us as we work toward a healthier Long Beach.
